about

A collaborative music project between eight musicians—including members of bands Arcade Mode, Meishi Smile, and The Racing Pulses—that is loosely based on the Exquisite Corpse drawing game. Starting with three single-instrument tracks, three musicians were given one track for them to contribute any single instrument section that they saw fit. These new two-instrument tracks were then sent to different musicians and continued as such until a full song was formed.

While the music wasn't created in exact Exquisite Corpse fashion, the album cover for this project was. Nine artists contributed a section of the bizarre being's body—utilizing a variety of drawing and illustration methods—with only a fragment of the previous drawing as reference. Each portion of the body was later combined to create a complete figure.

This album favors the experimental nature of collaboration over anything else. Each musician was encouraged to create through whatever means they felt most comfortable with—some people utilized professional music software and equipment, others recorded using their cell phone. Vast differences in recording equipment and techniques—as well as personal taste in music—allows each song to form a unique sense of auditory texture.

This album is available for download at whatever price you set. While I encourage people to download this EP for free, I want to make note that any and all proceeds from this album will go directly to the musicians who collaborated with me—I'm keeping none of it for myself.

This EP was a spur-of-the-moment idea that came to mind as I bummed around in a downtown cafe before work, and I became determined to not add it to my ever-growing list of unrealized projects. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who dedicated time in their busy lives to help me take this project from idea to conception. xoxo
